The Public Sector Commission (PSC) is a central agency in the Queensland Government who provides services to the Queensland public sector building the capability of their work, workplaces and workforce.
Through the development of legislation, frameworks, policies and programs, we support the public sector to effectively deliver services and advice to the people and communities of Queensland.
The Public Sector Act 2022 (the Act) is a modern employee focused framework for the Queensland public sector. Our role is to bring to life the Act’s vision for the public sector, through:
- the development of key directives, policies, legislation and frameworks
- assisting agencies to understand and fulfill their responsibilities to create workplaces that are equitable, diverse, fair and inclusive for all employees
- ensuring chief executives are aware of their obligations under the Act.
The PSC provides strategic workforce planning services that ensures the public sector workforce is equipped with the necessary skills and expertise to meet the needs of Queenslanders, now and into the future.
These services include:
- providing agencies with advice and resources to future plan and ensure they are prepared to meet upcoming challenges and opportunities.
- collecting, analysing and publishing whole of sector workforce data
- State of the Sector report
- Working for Queensland survey
- support and provide advice during changes to government structures and Machinery of Government changes
- managing the whole-of-government employee value proposition and employer brand.
The PSC assists and supports HR professionals across the public sector by providing:
- strategic advice that enables positive workplace outcomes for public servants
- specialised advice through our HR assist and SES advisory services.
- managing complaints concerning senior public servants.
We do not provide advice to individual public servants. We encourage those seeking advice to talk to their agencies HR unit or union.
We provide the Queensland public sector with opportunities to establish career pathways and develop their leadership skills and capability.
To support the sector to develop their skill and capability, the PSC:
- develops, curates and manages leadership development programs, courses and events, including:
- manages the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander career pathways service
- fosters collaboration through establishment of sector-wide Communities of Practice and Steering Committees.
